Pre Operative Instructions
Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
To best prepare you for your treatment at our surgery center, we ask that you follow these guidelines:
- You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to the appointment, unless otherwise instructed by your surgeon.
- No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home.
- Please contact our office prior to your visit if you have any health conditions which require medications such as: heart murmur or mitral valve prolapse, artificial valves, joint replacement or kidney shunts, rheumatic fever, diabetes.
- Please be sure to bring all current insurance information with you.
- Patients who use any form of blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, Coumadin, Plavix, herbal medicines) should contact our office two weeks prior to their appointment for special instructions.
- Please provide us with a complete and current list of any medications that you are taking so we can keep your records up to date.
- All minors (under the age of 18) or those requiring legal guardian consent MUST have the designated parent or guardian in attendance during their visit.
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled shoes.
- Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed at the time of surgery.
- Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.
